Why IRS deadline is April 18 and cheap tax relief related eat opportunities

We’ve got honest Abe Lincoln and Mayor Anthony Williams to thank for giving us a few extra days to file our taxes.

On April 16 in 1862, President Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act and 143 years later, in 2005, Washington DC’s mayor made that day an official public holiday in his city. While both marked good news for African Americans, every now and again taxpayers get a deadline break as a result of it.

Now that you know the reason for and the history behind this year’s IRS deadline date of April 18, don’t overlook the fact that there are plenty of cheap or freebie foods available on that pay Iris Day, as well. As for how that all got started, who knows. But, it’s a good thing.

Here are a few of the participating restaurants offering tax relief deals. Before heading out to any of them, make sure to check each of their on-line sites, or Facebook, to learn the particulars:

•Bruegger’s, the bagel people, is offering Big Bagel Bundles for $10.40 from April 15 through April 18.

•Cinnabon: On Monday, April 18 anyone visiting one of their participating bakeries will get two free Cinnabon Bites between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

•Hooters is doing the wing thing on April 18. Buy 10 wings and get 10 more free. This offer is only good on boneless and traditional wings and for those dining in house.

•McCormick & Schmick’s is offering $10.40 entrée and drink specials.

•Subway: Diners can purchase one footlong sub and get the other free on Monday, April 18.
