I know why Jeff Greene hasn't signed the pledge yet

By Dian Vujovich

Wait a while and the answers to things that have puzzled you always seem to reveal themselves. Take the case of Jeff Greene and why he hasn’t joined Buffett’s and Gates’ in The Giving Pledge yet: Looks like he is spending all of his money on TV ads and mailings.

I don’t know how much money this new Democrat with the goofy hair who wants to be a senator has shelled out in TV ads, but it’s too much. I’m sick and tired of seeing his mug, pictures of his family when he was a kid and the front of The Breakers over and over and over again every other 30 seconds on TV. Guess no one has told him that over saturating the market can be just as ineffective to a political campaign as under saturating it. Then again, Greene doesn’t appear to be the kind of guy who listens when people tell him stuff.

I also don’t know how much the guy has spent on his mail campaign. But let’s get real here—-bigger isn’t always better. The size of his post cards is ridiculous. Makes me wonder if he’s overcompensating for something.

Anyway, Greene’s four-color humongous post cards always seem to arrive in two’s. They’re like MacMansion’s— too big for the average guy or gal and tough to sell in a down market. They’re also a waste of ink, paper and I’ve had more than one person say to me, “I wonder how many trees had to be cut down to make these?”

The funny thing about people with too way much money who want to be politicians but really aren’t’ is that they generally assume all of their money has made them intrinsically powerful on all fronts. It doesn’t. Nor does it mean that they have much in the line of advertising smarts.

Fortunately this election will be over soon. In the meantime, there’s the mail that will come today and early next week. Figure my cubby will be packed with more of Greene’s political propaganda as well as those from others. My friend, Mary, received nine political postcards in her mailbox on Friday. Four were from Greene. She’s figuring she’ll have a dozen more by Tuesday.
